Dear Seattle Mariners,

The purpose of the game is not to get to the end of the inning as fast as possible, nor is it to leave base runners in scoring position for all three of the outs. Indeed, despite the fact that you have a bat and someone throws you a ball, nothing says you must swing. It is often beneficial to your team for you NOT to swing and try to work deep into the count. In fact, your sole purpose when standing at the plate is to do everything you can to not make an out.

I just thought I would mention those things because you seem to have forgotten.

Thanks for your attention.
