Isn’t it nice to have someone like me tell you what’s really not to be missed? The blogathon gives me the chance to find some real gems. Today’s group includes five food and garden blogs that I love, I subscribe to, I don’t miss. You should have a peek.

1. Babette Feasts by Barb Freda is filled with advice, recipes, links. And pretty pictures. I especially love her post this week about breaking the rules. Her take on cast iron skillet seasoning? I’m trying that.

2. Outlaw Garden, by Cristina Santiestevan, is all about rule breaking. She grows veggies in her front yard. Her homeowners’ association isn’t thrilled with this. She cares not a bit. She’s the one who has convinced me to grow sweet potatoes next year.

3. I can’t grow a lot of what Rosemarie Thompson grows way down south. But her blog, Sanctuary Gardener, is beautiful and includes recipes and ideas of what to do with the bounty you manage to grow wherever you are. She has a great list of educational resources, too.

4. I am not gluten intolerant, but I think wheat doesn’t agree with me when I eat a lot of it. So I have been exploring resources suggested by people who avoid gluten. Wendy Bottrell’s Gluten Free Living site was a great find for me this blogathon. It’s not always about gluten free stuff, but she has some good recipes — this recipe looks yummy and simple; I’m trying it out this weekend — and resources.

5. I discovered Japan Farmers Markets, Joan Bailey’s blog, last year. I still read it. It has cool pictures and gives me a view of a different culture in a language I can read.

I read other food blogs that aren’t associated with the blogathong this year — Monica Bhide’s A Life of Spice is always worth a visit.

What are your favorite food and gardening blogs?

You could die before you get through all the good things on the internet, right?
